Volunteers

Volunteer Information Sheet 

All Festivals International Volunteers must be over 18 years of age, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. All volunteers will sign a release form exempting Festivals International from being held liable for any injuries that may occur as a result of volunteering for Festivals International.

Volunteers will provide their own costume, and prior to being hired will either present their costume, or a photo of the costume, to festival management for approval.

Volunteers will inform festival management which days of each festival they wish to work; and which shift they would like to work. 10:30 AM – 2:30 PM or 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM.

All volunteers are expected to behave in a professional manner while working for Festivals International; this means: No swearing; No alcohol or drugs prior to or during their volunteer shift, No smoking while on the festival grounds; No tardiness when showing up for their shift.

Festivals International Volunteers may list their service on their resumes and may expect a letter of recommendation for future employers, if their volunteer work is of a high standard.

The following assignments may be available to volunteers: 

Front Gate Staff – greeting patrons who enter the faire, handing out programs, providing information.

Area Manager – in charge of monitoring a section of the festival grounds; making sure stage shows start and end on time, providing assistance and support to area merchants and overseeing improv street characters for correct behavior towards other actors, merchants and patrons. This position would have the authority to correct stage acts for not starting their show or ending their show on time, to request street characters to either improve improper behavior or leave the festival grounds; remind merchants to have their vehicles off the festival grounds twenty minutes before opening gate and correct merchants if they are not in proper festival garb.

Parking Attendant – assists patrons by directing them in the proper parking patterns and assists security force whenever needed.

Street Character – improv performer who will be assigned to a specific festival area to interact with patrons. Volunteers interested in this position must provide festival management with an in-depth description of their character, possibly a short video tape or written recommendation, and will require an audition for festival management. Street characters will be supervised to determine that they are in keeping with the festival management directive of keeping this festival a Family Friendly show. 

Grounds Maintenance Worker – will be assigned to a specific festival area and be responsible for monitoring their festival area, picking up litter and emptying trash cans when required.
